Currently most Makino spindles are equipped with special bearings and other perishable
components that are needed to support a recirculating lubricating system. As this adds to thermal
stability it leaves the spindle vulnerable to failure and frequent leaks. These failures happen
because many wear items needed to flow the oil through the center of the spindle breakdown over
time and then flood your entire lube system with coolant and other contaminants, destroying
spindles and other expensive parts of the machine. We have repaired many
spindles because one low priced o-ring failed at the mating face of the customers tooling and
flooded
the system with coolant. Motor City sees and repairs hundreds of different spindles and designs.
We have applied this knowledge to redesign this problematic area to show added value and cost
savings to our customers. The #1 rule of spindle life is to protect the precision bearings from
outside contaminants and properly lubricate them. Motor City's Spindle’s new design does just
that. We have taken the most effective proven designs that exist in the machine tool world and
applied it to the Makino spindle.
Motor City is performing this conversion without any retrofit or changes to be implemented on the
machine end. The new lubrication system is housed in the standard spindle assembly and all
hoses and hookups remain the same. This enables you the customer; to install the spindle as
before and gain the following benefits:
